So, here’s my top 10 Tarot cards for sex.

knight_wandsKnight of Wands – The Knight of Wands is your typical flirt! He is full of passion and lust, and he has so much sexual energy it just oozes out of him. Great in bed, but once he loses interest, he’s gone.

ace_wandsAce of Wands – Just look at the picture. This is an incredibly phallic card with a sprouting wand that rises to attention (if you catch my drift). Sexually, things are going very well when you see the Ace of Wands.

devilDevil – The Devil is a passionate, hedonistic and lust-filled card indicating great sex but where there is something amiss. The relationship may be bordering on the side of obsession or it has become angst-ridden. You might also be involved with someone who is not fully available to you, yet you keep going back for more.

three_cupsThree of Cups – Threesome! Upright, this is a fun threesome, but reversed you may find that three is a crowd and you’d much prefer there were only two of you involved.

star tarot card meaningsStar – I love the Star for her purity, oneness and transformative energy. She kneels naked, connected to the earth and the sky. Think tantric, connected sex that is highly spiritual in nature.

Eight of Wands – Quick and dirty. ‘Nuff said.

ace_pentaclesAce of Pentacles – Enter through the gate in this picture and you’ll find a large egg (AKA pentacle), waiting to be fertilised. So, if baby making isn’t on your agenda, use protection!

four_swordsFour of Swords – I can’t help but think of the missionary position when I see the Four of Swords. This is sex that has become passive and routine.

Eight of SwordsEight of Swords – With a woman blindfolded and bound, the Eight of Swords speaks of bondage and S&M. To make sure that this is completely consensual and safe, look to more positive cards in the reading.

temperanceTemperance – Opposites attract, creating a beautiful balance between two different individuals. There is good chemistry and you’re likely to take your time with each other, caring for and tending to each other’s every need.

  • Diana Cairns says:

    Hi Brigit
Overall a very good interpretation, and I especially agree about your thoughts on The Devil card when it comes to sex and relationships.
I am strictly a novice when it comes to reading Tarot cards, but I am drawn to The Two of Cups which suggests a two-way attraction. Much safer than The Devil, or does this card have hidden meanings?

    • Aasheesh says:

Two of cups suggest friendship. It need not be sexual in nature.Devil is a negative card and denotes lust, and obsession.

    • Brigit says:

Great suggestion with the Two of Cups. I can just imagine two people looking lovingly into each other’s eyes for hours and hours on end!

Aasheesh is right in that the Two of Cups can indicate friendship, but I also feel it indicate a new romantic relationship as well.

  • Louise says:

    Hey Biddy 🙂

You’ll find that there are quite explicit decks out there to enhance what you’ve written already, esp. The Devil. The Decameron, Sensual Wicca, Manara… to name 3 😉

    • Brigit says:

      Hi Louise,
Great to see you here! Excellent suggestions with Tarot decks that are specially designed for such a topic! The Thoth deck is another which comes to mind.

  • Aasheesh says:

Nice perspective on Tarot and Sex. I am surprised you left out Lovers card. Also Empress card oozes lot of feminine sexuality.

    • Brigit says:

I did consider the Lovers card, but then there were so many other cards I wanted to include. Maybe it should have been a Top 20 not a Top 10!! The Empress is also a great suggestion.

  • Diana Cairns says:

Thanks for your comment, Aasheesh. I also wondered about The Lovers card, and I agree that the Empress card has a “voluptuous” feel to it.
I prefer the “Two of Cups” to “The Lovers” for exactly the reason you pointed out – that it suggests friendship which may not necessarily be sexual in nature.
I know many people who have been involved in relationships of the kind that the “Devil” card indicates, and there is no doubt that obsession, addiction, lust and a lot of negativity go hand in hand with this influence.

  • Greg Daugherty says:

There’s rolling around the hillside with the Fool, feeling the magic with the Magician, discovering the depths of the feminine with the High Priestess and the Empress (was it a threesome with the Magician, HP and Empress that made it so popular?), the master Emperor probably invented Viagra, and we know the Hierophant makes it religious…nice article, it’s making them all speak to me about it!

  • Ruth says:

The Devil can be positive in my readings as well, for ex., what is a good relationship without a little lust? Answer: not a good one, it’s flat….also in regards to love it can sometimes signify permanence. Yup, we need a Top 20. 😉

  • Aasheesh says:

The difference of sexual undertones of Star card, and Devil is so striking !
Star is all about deep spiritual connection which leads to satisfying sex.Devil is about lust ,illicit, and obsessive feelings.Star is truly my favourite card. The figure speaks for itself.

  • rosychhabra says:

Hi Brigit I love your interpretation about tarot cards for sex. It helps me to understandthem very well. In my opinon Nine of pentacles also represents sex card. This card depicts a lady of pleasures who enjoys sex and money. She is having venus which shows her a mistress or a lady whose husband is living at distant place but she is enjoying her life.

Two of cups also shows the sex card but this card depicts the pure love and sex not lust The figures in the cards themselves speak about their pure nature of sex

  • Cheryl says:

Brigit…this is wonderful…opening our minds to endless possibilities and interpretations. Thanks so much for sharing,

  • Argenta says:

I was wondering why label 8 of Wands “dirty”?

The pristine nature in the background suggests, at least to me, sex born of natural urges, yes, maybe even a bit animalistic, harsh, quick, unthinking, but not really dirty.

I’d call dirty something like the 5 of Swords, where one person is dominant and even sneering, and the other one (two?) hurt.

  • Dave says:

I ever drew a Ace of Wands and The Emperor as a person’s feeling toward me. What kind of feeling is that??

  • Brittany says:

I got Devil card and apparently I’ll have a lot of sex but it’s so clear I won’t be.
I just know I don’t want sex. I don’t even want to get married.
What do you think this is?

  • Kirsten says:

    All good cards!

I know it’s obvious and The Lovers card is supposed to be about choice, but because of its name I think it can be about sex too. There’s a reason it’s not called “The Married Couple” or “The Partners.” While I see the Two of Cups as any type of emotional relationship (sexual or otherwise), I think The Lovers card is more blatantly sexual.

  • Akira says:

What would be your interpretation for a reversed knight of wands?

  • Akira says:

I drew a reversed knight of wands and the sun as this person’s feeling towards me? I can’t figure this out. Thanks!!!

  • Akira says:

Thanks for the info. Fooling around sounds good to me. LOL!

  • Akira says:

I did the reading again with someone else in mind and got great results. I pulled the world and the six of wands as this person’s feeling towards me. The world means that the person is kinky and likes to try new things. For the six of wands it means that sexual chemistry is so high that you need to call the fire department to extinguish the passion. LOL! This is fun.

  • Scorpsage says:

I’m totally surprised no one has mentioned the Ace of cups in this post yet. To me, if your talking about sex, the Ace of Cups is that phenomenal orgasm! Also, I was wondering about the hanged man and the possibility of it pointing to a dom/sub relationship in the bedroom. What do you think??

  • Scorpsage says:

Well, I happened to draw the hanged man when my friend asked what her sex life was gonna be like with this new guy she was thinking of. Normally, I’d think of the hanged man as abstinence But knowing her, it made me think again… Could it point to a sub relationship?

  • Kristina says:

I was expecting to see 10 cups here as complete satisfaction ….

  • Elizabeth says:

The 8 of wands makes a powerful heated love making. This reveals multiple organism that the woman is receiving from the male. Since wands resemble that of a phallic (males penis). This man delivers with full passion and vigor. The love making is without doubt sizzling hot. I would said both parties were electric with each other. Since the 8 of wand astrological is Mercury and Sagittarius, He is definitely a smoother talker sexually. He knows how to wet the panties. The Devil card is completely opposite of the lover card. The devil indicate sexual abuse as well as binding situation, this card is clearly binding the distasteful seeking only heighten pleasure; there is no oneness, there is a lot manipulation and control in this card. It sums up sexual addiction, infidelity, lying cheater of the heart. The eight of sword, This individual is sexually repress or perhaps enjoys being tied up. She is very isolated and sees sex in a negative way. She does not know how to romance her man sexually. Her communication is boring to said the least. This person would sent her man out to cheat.

  • Carla says:

I did a 3 card reading this morning just as a general what’s on for today and I got
Ace of wands , 3 swords and 2 of cups in that order.
I read it as confusion and conflict over a loving sexual relationship?

  • maudena says:

I think the ace of swords is extremely sexual. It could mean a man wanting to have sex
with someone, but he is surrounded by problems preventing him from doing it. the ace
of swords shows him fucking regardless of how much problems he he has to overcome.

  • Gabrielle says:

Interesting! I had a dream I was playing with dolphins and they were nudging me to look back towards the shore to notice the Knight of Wands sitting on a horse…

…six month later, I met Mr Knight of Wands, and six weeks later, he proposed…six months later, we were married…for 22 not-always-happy-but-not-always-miserable years.

Oh and..the sex was brilliant *wink*

  • Arpan says:

Some very interesting discussions. Quite entertaining actually !

  • Barbara says:

I love this! thanks everyone for the insights. my birth card is the star and I love tantrA, I never had made the connection before.

  • Brittany says:

I asked the cards if I’d sex with a person or would end up sleeping with them? I got the nine of cups, the wish card. So does this mean it’ll come true?

  • Brittany says:

Hi Brigit, I asked the cards for two positive pregnancy cards. I got The Devil and The Moon upright. How would I interpret these? What do you think this means?

    • Brigit says:

Ooo tricky… could be some underlying fears and mindset issues that are getting in the way of falling pregnant. Perhaps being too attached to the outcome, which leads to subconscious influences impacting the chances of getting pregnant.

    • Solona says:

The Moon refers to menstrual cycles, in my experience. Was your question asking if you were pregnant? Or asking what you can do to get pregnant?

  • glittergirl says:

I asked if the guy was sexually attracted to me and how he saw me? I got the Lovers card! Can someone offer me an explanation apart from the obvious because these cards have deeper meaning to them. Thank you

  • Brittany says:

Hey Brigit, I ask what would happen if I would have sex with this person. I asked for two cards and here is what I got. The sun upright and two of pentacles reversed. What could this mean?

  • maudena says:

Other tarot sex cards are strength, ace of swords and page of wands.

  • Nimi says:

There is a guy who I have a great mental connection with but to test this I asked whether he wanted to have sexual relations with me. The outcome cards I got were the 8 of wands along with the wheel of fortune and 3 of wands! I’m a bit concerned now because the wands denote sex and passion so do you think this what he only wants underneath his mental exterior? thanks for any feedback

    • Brigit says:

The Wheel of Fortune is also a good sign to just go with the flow and see where it takes you. So maybe a little fun in the bedroom is just what you need to know what’s next 🙂

  • Brittany says:

Hey Brigit! When I ask about this certain guy, I keep getting The Empress. What do you interpret that as? Like could it mean something with him about something new coming into my life? A possible pregnancy?

  • Saku says:

Got Devil, Stars and Knight of Wands in one reading. x.x

  • Jake says:

Hi Brigit, i got an reversed two of wands about how someone sexualy feels about me, what’s this means?

  • Ricardo says:

How about the reversed eight and seven of swords in a sex reading? Thanks Brigit!

  • Christie says:

Hiya Brigit! In a reading about “what a person sexually feels about you” with the outcome as “justice” means? I’m so confused with this card in this kind of reading. Many thanks and have a good day!

  • secretiveone says:

I fell on this (older) post while searching for what the Hermit means sexually speaking for someone very sexually oriented (read this as rather a solitary pleasurer… secretive pleasurer… avid learner type – may be into giving rather than receiving / takes care of his own needs) but wanted to read other interpretations in this context. The funny thing is that she is rather Knight of Wands/8 of Wands in her inclination, so this was quite a fun read!

    Thanks Brigit!

  • Arpita Banerjee says:

high priestess, certainly a seductress, flowing and her books must be having good positions too i guess, LOL

  • megan says:

Here’s one to interpret. I draw until the cards tell me to stop. I drew 4 cards about how a certain man feels about me and I got the Ace of Wands, the Devil, the 2 of Cups and the Sun. Given the negative connotations usually associated with the Devil it completely threw me. I feel he represents sexual passion, not necessarily obsessive though because we live 2 hours apart and haven’t been able to see each other in a while due to life events. Can anyone clarify?

  • megan says:

That for sure is exactly right on the sexual passion. Just finally saw him a few nights ago and let’s just say there wasn’t much sleeping that night! I have very very strong feelings for him that go beyond physical and I was hoping that the 2 of cups showing in that reading meant that his feelings went deeper than lust as well.

  • Steve says:

I would absolutely associate the IX of Cups with highly orgasmic, fulfilling sex. On the Rider card, the man is sitting there after drinking the wine of fornication, happy and enjoying the afterglow. I’ve seen this card come up many times within this context!

The Three of Cups could also signify a three-way or group sex!

  • Jen says:

Number 1 on my list is the queen of wands. 2nd is the world!

  • hailey says:

knight of pents — HUGE PACKAGE, sex machine… you have to beg for water breaks.

  • Mary Daniels says:

Don’t forget the Knight of cups – the Prince charming of the Tarot world and also known as the card of the lover. He can’t be prince charming if he sucks in bed so he must really burn up the sheets and make the neighbours complain about the noise.

  • Beth-Anne says:

Knight of swords (like a sir Lancelot figure). And 7 of cups suggests some good role play sex to me.

  • It seems that the lines between what is “sensual” and “sexual” are somewhat blurred. Or maybe not blurred but different shades of grey? The Sensual Goddess Tarot deck has been controversial but the images are certainly a unique twist on the Ryder-Waite symbology.

  • Nicole says:

I had someone do a love reading about how this guy feels about me. I got The Fool, Ace of Wands, Ace of Penticals, Ace of Cups, The Devil and the Lovers card. Any thoughts? I wasn’t 100% sold on her thoughts of the reading.

    • Tami says:

Do you know the spread they used?
Putting these card together, I can think of a very new and exciting relationship, with a lot of potential to fulfill sensual but also emotional urges. Although The Devil and The Lovers cards make me think about how the choices he makes in this relationship will define how deep it will go emotionally. There is a lot of emotional potential but I feel sensuality speaks heaps more about how he feels for you. I think he may find you very sexy and attractive!

  • Tami says:

    Hey Brigit,
What about the Queen of Pentacles? I always think of her as a very sexy woman who doesn’t depend on anyone for pleasure because she is very in touch with her own body and sensuality.

  • CK369 says:

I get the queen of pentacles a lot in my relationship readings (a lot!), always in regard to the same partner. I don’t think anyone would see me as home oriented nurturing person, is this saying he sees me in a highly sexual way? Or something else?

On a somewhat related note, I was doing a reading with a friend and the question was how does a guy feel toward her. She got the reversed king of wands, the wheel of fortune, and the reversed two of wands, in that order. I had no idea what to make of it. Thoughts?

I’m very new to tarot, so any help is fantastic. Loving your blog, thanks for all you’ve written!
