This week, I welcome the gorgeous Anna Sayce, a genuine and authentic soul helping others to connect with their intuition and spirituality. She shares her best advice for how to identify and use your psychic gifts to help others. Take it away, Anna…

I was completely fascinated with all things spiritual from an early age. Although I work as an Akashic Record reader these days, my first foray into doing readings for others started age fourteen when I began bringing my Tarot cards to school and doing readings for my high school classmates.

My Tarot reading process involved asking a question, drawing the cards, and then consulting the little book that came with my pack of Tarot cards. Although I felt the presence of a benevolent ‘something’ when I did these readings, I hadn’t made the connection that this benevolent presence would work with me during the Tarot readings and help me to read the cards.

So instead I engaged my logic, used my little Tarot book, and pieced together meanings and situations like a left-brained detective. But my readings didn’t end up making a lot of sense to me or my ‘clients’.

Later on, when I studied the Tarot in more depth, I did of course learn that Tarot requires the right-brain faculties – the intuitive side – rather than the left brain on its own(which of course seems awfully obvious to me now!)

In this article, I want to talk about the various intuitive gifts that can help us in our quest to access guidance via the Tarot. I’m going to help you to identify which of the gifts you have and give some tips which can help you to apply them to your readings so that if you have an over-reliance on your little Tarot book, like I did back then, you can engage your intuitive side a bit more.

So, let’s go into these gifts. The first one I want to talk about is claircognizance.

Claircognizance

I am starting with this one because in my experience helping people with their intuitive development it’s the most common gift to have, plus claircognizants have a natural affinity with the Tarot.

How can you know if you have this gift? Here are some signs you could be claircognizant:

  • You often ‘know’ things about people that you shouldn’t, and without knowing HOW you know
  • You are very analytical and mentally oriented
  • You have inspired ideas and solutions to problems that come to you, seemingly from nowhere
  • You sometimes feel like a know-it-all, because you seem to have an answer for everything
  • You receive information about future outcomes.

Claircognizance means receiving guidance from Spirit in the form of impressions and information. These are sometimes called ‘divine downloads’, because the information seems to come into your brain from a higher place.

So, if you’re a claircognizant Tarot reader, not all your impressions, thoughts and ideas while reading the Tarot will be from your human brain.

Claircognizant Tarot readers can hone their gifts by laying down that strong knowledge of the cards andanchoring them into the subconscious as much as possible through guided meditations or kinaesthetic processes. This of course creates a strong ‘frame of reference’ which Spirit then uses when you read the cards. Spirit will help you to develop the story of the cards, by using your own thoughts and impressions while you read the Tarot.

Utilizing claircognizance also involves developing awareness of one’s mental processes during the reading, and paying attention to the subtle impressions that come in even before one has a thought. All of these, of course, become easier with practice.

Claircognizance likes to reference past information, such as situations and people we’ve encountered in the past, to tell us something. So pay attention if you’re reading the Tarot and are reminded of a previous situation or person you’ve read for – Spirit draws parallels in this way for claircognizants.

Let’s talk about another important intuitive gift that is helpful in reading the Tarot:

Clairsentience

Clairsentience is especially useful in helping us to know when we’re on the right track as Tarot readers.

You are possibly clairsentient if you:

  • Are emotionally sensitive and empathic (perhaps you have an ‘F’ in your Myers-Briggs type)
  • Get strong ‘gut feelings’ about people and situations
  • Feel physical sensations (such as tingling or skin crawling) which you feel constitute validation of your intuitive guidance

So, clairsentients receive spiritual information through gut instincts, emotions and physical sensations.

As a clairsentient Tarot reader, your feelings and the physical sensations that you experience during a reading may not be your own. You may also feel the emotions of the person you’re reading for, or even the person the client is asking about.

You may be able to ‘feel’ the positive or negative energy linked to a situation through a sinking feeling in your gut. Or you could feel excited, uplifted, or positive during a reading. These feelings convey messages to us.

Those with this gift can also quickly develop a strong sense for the accuracy of their claircognizant or clairaudient input, through their clairsentience. When clairsentients have an ‘intuitive hit’, there is usually an ‘energetic signature’ attached to this, which lets them know that they’re on the right track, and to have confidence in their impressions. Or conversely, our clairsentience will alert us if we’re a little bit ‘off’ and need to look again.

Clairsentient Tarot readers can hone this gift by paying attention to their feelings and gut during a reading. It sounds simple, yet most clairsentients are so used to this kind of guidance coming in, that they sometimes don’t recognize what it can add to their readings. Practice can definitely help the clairsentient Tarot reader to come to know their ‘energetic signature’ which lets them know they are ‘on the money’. My energetic signature as a clairsentient feels like mild excitement mixed with a sense of certainty.

Next, let’s have a look at one of the more well-known gifts:

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyants of course receive information through images and visuals. These people are often drawn to the Tarot, with its rich visual cues and imagery.

Here are some signs this is a gift you possess:

  • You can easily visualize and envision in your mind’s eye
  • You sometimes see sparkling coloured lights or things moving out of the corner of your eye
  • You often get a clear image in your mind of how you want something to look before it’s created (for example, a garden, an outfit, flower arrangement or interior décor)
  • You are creative in a visual way.

Clairvoyant readers are often drawn to using the imagery in Tarot as a starting point in a reading. A certain aspect of the imagery may ‘stand out’ to them, or may suddenly hold the key to the situation that is being read. As a clairvoyant Tarot reader, you will often need to use this gift in conjunction with either claircognizance or clairaudience, in order to make sense of the clairvoyant input.

Clairvoyants may of course ‘see’ the future or see a metaphor which relates to or explains a situation during the Tarot reading.

You can develop your clairvoyance for your Tarot readings by exercising your ‘visual muscles’, doing guided visualizations and daydreaming, or even placing a lapis lazuli crystal over your third eye chakra. The more you use your mind’s eye, the more clairvoyant you become.

Using the imagery of the Tarot to start your reading, and allowing the character in a card to come to life in your mind’s eye may also be a way for clairvoyants to access the Tarot’s message using this gift.

There’s one more psychic gift that I want to talk about:

Clairaudience

Clairaudients receive intuition through their ‘inner voice’ (which is that positive voice in your head that sounds a bit like you, but perhaps a bit more authoritative or calm.) Clairaudience literally means ‘clear hearing’.

So, this is about receiving words, sounds, and even song lyrics during a Tarot reading.

Are you a clairaudient? You may be if:

  • You have had a paranormal experience which involved hearing a voice outside of you
  • You have a chatty inner voice which guides you in your life
  • You’re sensitive to sounds and loud noises
  • You often wake up with words or song lyrics in your head which are the solutions to your problems or the answers to your questions.

A clairaudient Tarot reader will ‘hear’ a story emerge while reading the cards, or receive information about a situation through this inner voice.

You can awaken your clairaudience by heightening your sensitivity to sound and paying attention to all the sounds that are around you which normally go unnoticed. Students have told me that listening to binaural beats has also helped to awaken their clairaudience.

Some readers make use of all the above gifts in their Tarot readings and some have one or two which are strongest.

My question to you is:

Which gifts do you think are strongest for you?

How do you use them in your Tarot readings?

I hope you found this article helpful!
