Practice Makes Perfect – How To Build Your Confidence in Reading Tarot

By April 17, 2013 August 26th, 2020

The key to being a fully confident Tarot reader is to practice, practice, practice. Practice your Tarot reading skills from Day 1 and you will watch your confidence go through the roof.

There are lots of ways you can practice your Tarot reading skills. Here are just a few:

Draw a Daily Tarot Card

One of my  favourite ways to build confidence is the Daily Tarot Card, where you do just what it sounds like: pull one card every day for yourself and see what kind of guidance you get from it.

Instead of reaching for your phone first thing in the morning, start your day off right by tuning into your intuition with your Tarot cards.  The act of having a ritual sets your day up for success, while the Tarot card makes you more intuitive by working as a tool to nudge your mind in the right direction.

Use a Tarot card meanings reference guide

Instead of trying to memorize every one of the 78 Tarot cards in exact detail, I decided to simplify things and only focus on the 2 or 3 keywords for every card.  That's when I created a Tarot card keyword chart, which I could put up where I did my Tarot readings.

Now, instead of worrying about whether I could remember what a card meant or if I had it right or wrong, I could now quickly glance at the Tarot keyword chart and boom! My intuition would open up and my readings would take on a whole new energy.

These keywords became seeds of inspiration that then opened up the doorway to something even bigger and more insightful for my readings.

Read for Others

Reading for others feels like a huge hurdle for so many Tarot readers.  Whether it's a friend, family member, or client, there's a lot of pressure to nail it every time.  However, this is an important step in building your confidence as a Tarot reader.

One way that you can do this without the pressure is to do Free Tarot Readings online, in exchange for feedback.  This is the best way to develop your skills and experience quickly.  Members of the Biddy Tarot Community are able to give such readings on their own time, when they feel comfortable.

Read for Yourself

Reading the Tarot for yourself is a quick and easy way to gain more practice in Tarot reading. You are always available, you can give yourself feedback, you can steal a few glances at your Tarot Card Meanings Reference Guide and you don’t have to worry if you get it ‘wrong’.

Doing a reading for yourself is also the perfect way to tap into your intuition and get the answers you need. Whether it’s about deep spiritual matters or practical, day-to-day issues, the Tarot can help.

However, reading Tarot for yourself can be hard! Make sure you set some personal boundaries such as reading only once on a certain topic and drawing only a maximum of two clarifier cards per reading.

To simplify things, I created the free PDF: 7 Steps to to Read Tarot For Yourself With Clarity.

Learn the Tarot Card Meanings

This may seem like an obvious tip, but it's not so easy in practice. When I first started out, I was completely overwhelmed and frustrated as I tried to learn 78 unique Tarot card meanings.

I would ask myself, “What’s the Five of Pentacles got to do with love?” Or the Ace of Cups got to do with career?” Not just that, I wasn't sure how to personalize the card readings for myself.

There were so many different Tarot books out there. Every book seemed to have a completely different take on the Tarot cards. And many of those books used complex language that was too esoteric, too ‘out there’ for me. I just couldn’t see how any of it applied to my everyday life!

I was fed up.

So I put my foot down and made my own guide to all the cards in the Tarot deck and I named it “The Ultimate Guide to Tarot Card Meanings“.

You can learn more about it here.

Find Your Tarot family

One of the absolute best ways to build your confidence as a Tarot reader is to connect with people doing the same thing.

While Tarot is getting more popular each year, it hasn't hit the mainstream just yet.  That can make it hard for you to find like-minded people living close to you. That's why I created an online community for Tarot readers everywhere. The Biddy Tarot Community is a modern learning community for people who want to improve their Tarot card reading skills and connect more deeply to their intuition in their day-to-day lives.

When you join the Community, you get access to the members forum, which is a welcoming, friendly place where you can talk with other people who read Tarot about meanings, spreads and how they are using Tarot in their daily lives. You'll also get heaps of exclusive resources including masterclasses.
