Jenny (not her real name, to protect her identity) generously provided permission for her Tarot reading to be shared. She initially came to me asking about whether or not she would connect with an ‘old flame’ from her past. Here’s how the Tarot reading transpired…

Dear Jenny,

Thank-you for visiting biddytarot.com and requesting a Tarot reading. It is a pleasure to be able to read for you!

You have requested a Tarot reading in regards to an old flame with whom you have recently reconnected. I concentrated carefully on your question while shuffling the Tarot cards for you. I then laid the cards out and this is what they told me.

Firstly, take a look at the Aces in this reading. There are three here – two reversed and one upright. Aces usually represent new opportunities and as such, it is pleasing to see this man wanting to start a new opportunity with you with the Ace of Pentacles. With the other two Aces in the reversed position and in the past, it would seem like you had a chance at the relationship a while ago, but it was the wrong timing and the opportunity never truly manifested itself to its fullest potential. So, in some ways, this is like your second chance.

Let’s take a deeper look…

The reversed Ace of Swords reflects that when you were together, you may not have had the right headspace or clarity of mind to make the best of the relationship. Perhaps you were too young or naive, or you were overcome by all the emotions of a new relationship. It seems that you were not able to get to the true source or the raw energy of the relationship and it ended up being a relationship that came and went. You may have missed important opportunities with each other because you didn’t have clarity of mind or a sense of objectivity or truth.

The Empress is a very feminine card and often represents a very nurturing, beautiful, earthy woman. I wonder if there was another woman that got in the way of your relationship with this man – potentially another romantic partner (who may have been pregnant or a mum – going out on a limb here!), or even one of your mothers who may not have approved of the relationship. Either way, it would seem that another woman came in between you both and led to your separation. It wasn’t so much that she wanted to harm you, because the Empress is a very supportive woman, but her opinion may have mattered more at the time.

The significance of the relationship was that it hadn’t even really started before it ended. The seeds were planted and there was great potential, but it feels as if it was whisked away before anything could really grow into something substantial. So, it feels like a missed opportunity and something which was a factor of bad timing. I see this as an open door now, though, where you can pick up where you left off and try again, under more favourable circumstances.

Currently, the reversed Seven of Cups indicates that you are acutely aware that you may be reading too much into the relationship and you want to avoid getting carried away with all the possibilities for the future. You know that nothing is in concrete and perhaps your connection is still just as friends than anything else. There is a chance that he just wanted to say hi and that’s it. So you are managing yourself accordingly and trying to keep a grip on reality and maintain a sense of objectivity.

In terms of what you want, the Wheel of Fortune reversed suggests that you may be handing this potential relationship over to the Universe, thinking that the outcome is out of your control. You have an ‘anything goes’ attitude, but also you seem to be worried that it may not turn out as you want it to, particularly if you have not been having a good run lately. You seem concerned that this might just turn out to be another missed opportunity, so you are just letting it take its course without getting too caught up in it. I would encourage you to take back some of the control and direction here. If you want the relationship to work in the future, you will need to take accountability and responsibility for this and take action to make it happen. Just leaving it up to the Universe may lead to unintended or unwanted outcomes.

For him, the Ace of Pentacles is a positive sign that he would like to at least start something again with you. Now, this isn’t the Ace of Cups which highlights a new relationship, but it has more of a practical feel to it. That is, he wants to set up the possibility of a new relationship, without necessarily committing to it emotionally just yet. He wants to plan a date or turn his hopes into something real and tangible. So, talk in terms of planning and doing something to get his attention.

The obstacles, however, are that both of you are very busy and you may find it difficult to get the time and space to spend time together. You will need to manage your priorities and responsibilities carefully in order to get to spend time together. I wonder, too, if this separation is causing some financial difficulty for him and he has this at the forefront of his mind. He may have some financial concerns that he needs to deal with and some cash flow issues.

Now, here’s the card we want! The Lovers! This suggests to me that despite all the troubles around timing and other practicalities, you are both connected to each other on a much deeper, spiritual level. In fact, I would go as far as saying that you are soul mates on a deep level. You might still be struggling to get it together on a day-to-day basis, but on a soul basis you seem to share a very strong bond. This is the card that tells me you need to keep persevering and persisting, and acknowledge that this is one relationship you need to prioritise and value. The potential is huge, as I think you already know, but it may take some hard work to get it to come together.

Over the coming months, I suspect that he will be working hard to free himself from his financial commitments to his ex and this will make him more available. He may be struggling right now to be truly available in a relationship because he still has a few practical things to work out with his ex. But this is starting to pass and he is becoming more and more available. He may also have many work commitments that prevent him from being able to fully commit to you. Just be patient. He has the desire to make it work, but it may take some time to get into a new rhythm where he can dedicate time to seeing you.

Finally, the reversed Page of Wands suggests it will be a rocky path ahead and you may need to modify your course as you go along. Thank you!  A very accurate and insightful reading.

We were not in the right headspace, as we had both recently come out of relationships.  He went back to his wife….’The Empress’ (definitely a romantic partner), which is why the relationship never really started before it ended.  He is very busy with work, and we live in different states, which definitely makes it difficult to spend time together.  The reversed Seven of Cups is very accurate, I am definitely aware that I may be reading too much into the meeting, and I don’t want to get carried away…..particularly after my previous experience.  I have definitely thought that the relationship is out of my control, and to hand it over to the Universe.  That said, I do feel that we have a ‘connection’, which is why I believe I have never ‘severed the ties’ completely.  I do agree that it could be a struggle for us to get it together on a day-to-day basis and the path ahead could be a rocky one, but after reading your reply I will persevere.
