A ‘Real Life’ Example of the Relationship Tarot Reading

Julie (not her real name, to protect her identity) contacted me for a Relationship reading regarding an extra-marital affair that she had been involved in for 15 years. Months later, Julie still refers to this reading to help guide her and to provide deeper insight into her relationship.

Here’s how the Tarot reading transpired…

Dear Julie,

Thank-you for visiting biddytarot.com and requesting a Tarot reading. It is a pleasure to be able to read for you!

You have requested a Tarot reading in regards to your relationship with your partner (not your husband). While you are both married, your relationship together has been improving and you would like to know what you can do to create a more committed relationship. I concentrated carefully on your question while shuffling the Tarot cards for you. I then laid the cards out and this is what they told me.

  • The current relationship – Ace of Pentacles
  • What are the strengths in the relationship – King of Cups
  • What are the challenges or blockages in the relationship – Star reversed
  • What you are bringing into the relationship – Two of Pentacles reversed
  • How you see the relationship currently – Sun reversed
  • What you want from the relationship in the future – Six of Wands reversed
  • What may be holding you back from allowing the relationship to develop – Hermit
  • What you need to do to grow the relationship – Five of Pentacles
  • What your partner is bringing into the relationship – Five of Swords reversed
  • How your partner sees the relationship currently – Seven of Cups reversed
  • What your partner wants from the relationship in the future – Queen of Cups reversed
  • What may be holding your partner back from allowing the relationship to develop – Ace of Cups
  • What your partner needs to do to grow the relationship – Queen of Wands reversed
  • Where is the relationship heading – Knight of Cups
  • What you need to do to make the most of this relationship – Ten of Cups

The Ace of Pentacles shows that you feel like the relationship has taken a new turn just recently and there is a brand new opportunity to move it in the direction you want. Given this is the suit of Pentacles, there is a practical element and an opportunity to manifest something quite tangible in the relationship. It might be that you have just secured an apartment together or a place where you can be together, or that there is a new flow of money or income that is helping the relationship. You may have had a dream to do something in particular together and now that has come true. This is an exciting time for you both and filled with some greater hope for the future.

The King of Cups shows that you both share a very strong emotional connection with each other. This King is incredibly balanced, in control of his emotions, genuine, authentic, sensitive and caring. The emotional connection that you have with one another is very mature and very well established. This is probably a reflection of having been together for 15 years, despite your circumstances. I bet you are just wishing that you could be together properly and as a formal couple because the connection you do share is so strong and wonderful.

With the Star reversed, you do go through quite significant periods where you doubt the relationship and you lose faith and hope that things will ever work out. I think it must be very hard for you to not have him all to yourself, and while you have moments where you feel positive about the relationship, you also have moments where you wonder why you are still persisting with the relationship. It must be challenging when he says that his marriage is no longer working but he still remains married for whatever reason. I think this leads you to lose a lot of faith in the situation and you are always carrying a feeling of worry or doubt that this is the right relationship for you.

The next five cards reflect you in this relationship. The reversed Two of Pentacles suggests that you have always struggled to balance your relationship with this man with your other priorities. I can’t even imagine how you can sustain a 15 year extra-marital relationship! I barely have enough time to brush my hair sometimes J You really do have to juggle multiple priorities and you are run off your feet between commitments and other activities.

Currently, the Sun reversed suggests that you may be going through a rough patch and you may not feel as optimistic about the relationship as you had hoped. It’s odd because going by your email, I would have thought you were feeling quite optimistic, but perhaps this is one of those moments where you are starting to lose faith again and doubt yourself. It’s hard for the Sun to be negative, though, and so I suspect that any negativity will be temporary for now. There is also a young child in the card. I wonder if there are children on either side of the relationship and perhaps a concern about their well-being at the moment.

In the future, the Six of Wands reversed suggests that you want to be able to stand tall and proud about this relationship and to let others know about it. I think it must be incredibly hard to keep it a secret for so long, and to be keeping so hush-hush about the relationship. This card shows an increasing level of discomfort with having to keep  your relationship under wraps and out of the limelight, so to speak. You may also be worried about your reputation and the chance of vicious rumours that may spread. Do you work together? There may be some concern there that the secret will get out and will impact your reputation at work.

The greatest challenge is that you do not have enough time or space to reflect on your own. The Hermit is a very solitary figure and he spends most of his time in deep reflection. As a challenge, however, I suspect you are not getting enough time to yourself for you to be able to contemplate the situation at hand. In addition, you may be feeling lonely and isolated, even though you have two men in your life. It must be really difficult having a partner of 15 years who cannot be with you completely – perhaps very lonely and isolating within itself.

To overcome this, the Five of Pentacles indicates further isolation. I am getting the feeling that you may even need to take a short break from each other to work things through. While it may feel really awful at the time, it may help to re-balance your priorities. Perhaps you also need to start to draw some ultimatums about how long you will wait for a commitment. If it means giving him the cold shoulder until he commits, then you might just need to do that.

Ok, so now we turn to your partner in this relationship. The reversed Five of Swords shows that he has had enough of the fighting and conflict that exists in his current relationships and he has turned to you for support. He enjoys that you do not oppose him or fight him perhaps as much as his wife does. He has also given in already too many conflicts within his marriage and feels that he needs an outlet in this relationship. It’s as if he acknowledges that his marriage is never going to work, so he is engaging himself in this relationship with you.

Currently, the reversed Seven of Cups suggests that he may be under an illusion of sorts. He has created many options for himself with regards to his relationships, but he may not be seeing the situation from a place of reality. Instead, he may be fantasising about what is possible and may therefore not be able to commit to what he has planned for the future.

In the future, the reversed Queen of Cups suggests that he wants to become more distant from his wife because the emotional connection is no longer there and there is a lack of understanding between the two of them. However, I am still not sure that this will result in a divorce. It’s more like he will complain about his wife to you and will say that the marriage is nearly over, but I still don’t get the feeling he will make the big decision. He may be worried about possible emotional manipulation and blackmail on her part if he were to leave this relationship.

His greatest challenge is his emotions. He is a very emotional guy and he seems to become overwhelmed by his emotions quite a bit. He may be driven by his heart and not his head, which may also explain the reversed Seven of Cups. He lets his emotions get the better of him and then he may not be inclined to make the best decisions. To overcome this, he needs to be very wary about the women in his life and the extent of their power and influence over him. I get the feeling that he allows himself to be bossed around a bit, which means his confidence takes a hit and he ends up being ‘demasculinated’. So, with such an influential wife in his life, he may be quite afraid to go through with a divorce.

Nonetheless, the Knight of Cups suggests that things may become a little more romantic in the near future. Perhaps one of you has had a financial windfall (i.e. the Ace of Pentacles) and you can now enjoy a romantic weekend away or a fancy dinner out. There’s a bit more of the ‘spark’ back in the relationship that you experienced when you first met.

And finally, the Ten of Cups is a card of beautiful love, happiness, family and relationships. It asks you to cherish all of the relationships in your life and to give thanks for everything that you have. If you have children, give them as much love as you possibly can to let them feel part of your family. In your relationship with your partner, you can put in a lot of energy towards being a true family one day, and setting this as your goal.

So, overall, it seems that there are some really strong elements to your relationship and some more concerning undercurrents at play. On the one hand, you share a strong emotional connection and a desire to keep the relationship going. There is also going to be a bit of romance around the corner which will take you by surprise! But on the other hand, there are ongoing moments of doubt, worry and a loss of faith and hope that the relationship will ever get to where you want it to. I just don’t think there will be a divorce in the foreseeable future because his wife has a strong level of power and influence over him. You also need to work out whether you can continue this way forever, without ever really knowing for sure whether he can commit to you long-term. It must be a really tough situation for you both.

Julie’s Feedback

Your reading is very insightful and very close to the current situation.

My partner has had some financial luck and also bad investments in the past.  He has been concerned about his financial situation therefore, the ultimate decision of leaving or staying with his wife may be prolonged (this I understand).  Also, he has children that he feels would really be impacted negatively by the divorce.  Also, he said his wife is not happy with him and wants out as well but with all the current situations, I don’t know if this is the time to call it quits.

You are correct that there are times I feel exhausted in maintaining this relationship but deep in my heart, he is the love of my life and he makes me happy.  I am not ready for marriage with him yet but just knowing and progressing our relationship to devoting our time to “US” exclusively would be my dream.  I have tried calling it quits and we didn’t see each other for about 2 months but then I was miserable.  I decided to continue the relationship again, which actually has improved afterwards because he is a lot more verbal and open about his emotions now.  His reasonings are that he didn’t realize how good he had it and that he was miserable without me.

Thanks again for your time and reading.

Julie
